Question 5: Paul said in 2 Timothy 3:16, “All scripture is given by revelation of God….” So, what is written in the Bible are all the words of God. But some people say not all of them are God’s words. Aren’t they denying the Bible and deceiving others?

Answer: Regarding “all scripture is given by revelation of God,” first we need to know the background of Paul’s word. When Paul wrote letters to Timothy Church, there only existed the Old Testament. The New Testament hadn’t been compiled into a book. And there were just dozens of letters kept in the churches. So Paul’s words refer to the Old Testament, because the Israelites of the time only regarded the Old Testament as the Scripture. The New Testament came into being after 300 A.D. At that time, the leaders of those churches had a meeting together. They thought that the last days were near, and they should collect Jesus’ words and the apostles’ letters, compile them into a book, like the Old Testament, and give it out to every church. So, they collected the letters written by Jesus’ disciples and apostles.

I was formerly a middle-level leader in “Pentecostal Church.” One day in December 1999, I received from our General Assembly a booklet entitled “Resisting the Temptation from the ‘Eastern Lightning.’” It said, “The ‘Eastern Lightning’ is a heresy, a cult, which claims that the Lord has been incarnated as a female. It’s a mafia. If you refuse to join them after hearing their messages, they will gouge your eyes, cut off your nose, break your arms or legs. And they are promiscuous…” After reading these words, I accepted them as true without thought and immediately called the co-workers together for a meeting. At the meeting, I wantonly spread the words in the booklet, and emphasized that every co-worker must hammer them into all the believers so that they could have discernment and resist the “Eastern Lightning.” And I also made a rule: No one is allowed to receive strangers; whoever disobeys will be expelled. Despite this, I still felt worried, and I often went to the churches for a public or private investigation, ensuring that no believer would accept the “Eastern Lightning.”

The next day, March 12, I felt a kind of indistinct hope and ineffable excitement. This was because I had mostly discussed the “Son of man” with Susan the night before, and had talked about the “incarnation” as well. Even though I could draw a connection between the ‘Son of man’ and the ‘incarnation,’ and could know in theory that the Lord Jesus is none other than the incarnate Christ, I still wanted to know the answers to questions such as what the incarnation truly is, what Christ is, on what basis one could say with certainty that God has become incarnate, and so on. But since Susan and I both had work during the day and were only free in the evening, I just hoped that time would move a bit more quickly.
